I have been the Technology Studies instructor and the TSA advisor at Eau Gallie High School (EGHS) since August of 2000. EGHS TSA has competed well at the state competitions in April and has been awarded the # 2 Outstanding School Award for four years in a row (2001-2004). For three consecutive years, 2005, 2006 and 2007, EGHS won the first place Outstanding School Award, Florida TSA's highest award. EGHS has participated at all national conferences since the chapter's inception, and has sponsored state officers for three years. I have been on the FL TSA Board of Directors since May, 2005.

I am currently the Chapter Advisor and Technology Education instructor for Boone Middle School in Haines City, Florida and have four years of teaching experience. This is my first year as a Board Member, and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve Florida TSA.

William Smith
Treasurer

A 1981 graduate of Virginia Tech, I am currently a TSA chapter advisor of the W. R. Thomas Middle Community School. It is good to be back on the Florida TSA Board after being off the board for the past five years. I have also served on the National TSA team as an event coordinator, member of three national planning teams, and also on the National Board of Directors as the middle school representative. I currently serve as the Region 2 coordinator for National TSA.

Duane Hume
State Supervisor for Technology Education

I come to the position of State Supervisor for IT/Technology Education from the private sector bringing with me over 25 years of firsthand experience in the fields of education and technology, including designing and developing technical training for clients such as Novell, IBM, and the U.S. Navy. Since retiring from the Navy in 1988, I have watched the face of technology change dramatically and have been primarily focused on the computer, information technology, and networking industries with heavy emphasis on the electronic publishing and Internet technologies. During my tenure in the Navy, I earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from San Diego State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University.

Jennifer Broido
State Officer Advisor

Jenniferanne Broido is currently serving as the Florida TSA Board of Directors Secretary and State Officer Advisor. Broido is currently working on her Masters degree with Florida State University in Information Technology. In 2004, Jenniferanne was presented the Stars of Education Outstanding Secondary Student Award, sponsored by the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium (NASDCTEc). Jenniferanne, a 12 year alumna and previous National TSA officer, aspires to become a technology-education teacher.

Gil Burlew
Board Member

I joined the staff of Braden River High School in 2005 as the engineering teacher and department chair. I have received the Teacher of the Year award from the Florida Technology Education Association (FTEA), as well as the 1999 Teacher Excellence and Program Excellence awards from the International Technology Education Association (ITEA). I was awarded the TSA Advisor of the Year in 2001 and served as advisor for the Florida TSA Outstanding Chapter. I have also received the Santo Randazzo award through FTEA for working in the area of exceptional education. I am currently serving my second year on the Florida TSA Board of Directors.

Linda Chambers
Board Member

I am a Technology Education teacher in Manatee County teaching Project Lead The Way at Harllee Middle School. This is my 6th year as a TSA advisor. Currently, I am the President of the FTEA (Florida Technology Education Association). FTEA is an avid supporter of TSA. I am also a member of ITEA.

Julie Childers
Board Member

Julie is a Communication Technology and AP Art History teacher at Lawton Chiles High School located in Tallahassee, FL. She has been involved in many aspects of Technology Education and TSA throughout her teaching experience. As one of the first TSA Chapter Advisor in Leon County, she encourages all teachers to become involved in TSA and all its opportunities. She has advised her current chapter for over 10 years and served on the Florida TSA Board of Directors multiple terms.

Brian Grip
Board Member

I am a graduate of the College of New Jersey ’86 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts Education. I have been teaching for 15 years, the past 11 years in Polk County. I was the TSA chapter advisor at Boone Middle School from 2000-2005. I have been a member of the Florida TSA Board of Directors since 2003, currently serving as the secretary. I am the Teacher Resource Specialist of Industrial & Technology Education for Polk County Schools.

Ron Torres
Board Member

Ron Is the Engineering Academy Leader at Robert Morgan Ed Center, a school of choice since 2002. He has been a technology education teacher in Florida for 20 years with 11 years in New York and 2 years in Connecticut.

Ron has served on the Florida Technology Education Association, Board as Executive Director and is committed to promoting the welfare and prosperity of Florida TSA for the students enrolled in Technology education courses throughout the state. He is looking forward to working with the members of TSA to have the best leadership and state conferences this year and in the future.
